Get to Know Dr. Amanda Tan

I am originally from Singapore and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to complete my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University.

I have a passion for working with women, particularly those facing perinatal adjustment issues. I previously worked with women experiencing high risk pregnancies at the Riverside University Health System – Medical Center in Moreno Valley, as well mothers facing postpartum adjustment issues in El Camino Hospital’s Maternal Outreach Mood Services in Mountain View. However, through my previous work in other settings (e.g. elementary school, substance use treatment center, community mental health clinic), I have also helped many clients navigate issues such as acculturative and immigration stress, religious tension, work burnout, substance use, relationship and familial conflict, and various role transitions.

When you work with me in therapy, you can expect a gentle but direct approach to exploring difficult issues. As an Asian female immigrant, I am sensitive to the interactions between systemic problems and the individual experiences of each client. Our sessions together will use tools from evidence based approaches, with specific treatment plans tailored to your unique background and needs.

I also provide psychological assessment services for both adults and children, especially in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders. As a mother, I understand that children, no matter how old, can face many challenges in learning or interacting with others. I will actively collaborate with a child and their parents in creating an assessment plan with recommendations tailored to a child’s specific needs.

In my spare time, you can find me enjoying coffee, reading, and writing (https://medium.com/@tanamandaphd).
